Heat Pumps

Mitsubishi Heat Pump Boiler

Heat pumps utilise energy that is always available in the air, in the water and underground to convert that energy into available heat.

Even cold air is full of energy. For example, heat can be transferred from a source at 5ºC and delivered as heated water at 45-50ºC.

The amount of energy consumed to operate the pump is much less than would be required to heat the building by conventional means. Heat pumps are inherently efficient as they use low temperature heat created from renewable energy sources, and release relatively low carbon emissions.

Ground and water source heat pumps are similar in size to a domestic fridge freezer and can be located in a garage or utility room. Heat pumps are durable and highly reliable. They contain few moving parts and all components are either buried in the ground or located inside. The underground pipe typically carries a 40-year warranty

A heat pump works by driving a working fluid around a refrigeration circuit containing four elements:

  • Evaporator

  • Compressor

  • Condenser

  • Expansion valve
