Energy Saving Trust
The Energy Saving Trust was set up by the Government following the 1992 Rio Earth Summit and its goal is to achieve the sustainable and efficient use of energy, and to cut carbon dioxide emissions, one of the key contributors to climate change. The Energy Saving Trust is a non-profit organisation funded by the government and the private sector.
Sustainable Development Commission (SDC)
Established in 2000, the Sustainable Development Commission (SDC) is the Government's independent advisory body on sustainable development. The SDC is charged with advocating sustainable development and building consensus on the commitments and actions needed for progress to be achieved.
Centre for Alternative Technology
The Centre for Alternative Technology is Europe's leading eco-centre, with information on renewable energy, environmental building, energy efficiency, organic growing and alternative sewage systems.
Services include a visitor centre open 7 days a week, practical and informative publications, a mail-order service of 'green' books and products, educational services for schools, consultancy for individuals and businesses, residential courses, membership and a free information service.
The Centre for Sustainable Energy (CSE)
The Centre for Sustainable Energy (CSE) seeks sustainable energy solutions that engage people and communities to meet real needs for both environmentally sound and affordable energy services. The charity works with individuals and organisations from public, private and voluntary sectors on a wide range of initiatives at local, regional and national level.
Renewables East
Renewables East, the renewable energy agency for the people of the East of England, is based at Cambridge. The principal interests of Renewables East relate to renewable energy: bioenergy, wind, solar, hydro, energy coppice and transport fuels. The independent, not-for-profit agency facilitates renewable energy projects appropriate to the location and local community, in Suffolk, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire.
