Free Energy Fro... / Who are you? / Home owners
70% of homeowners in the UK want all newly-built properties to be eco-friendly, according to new research commissioned by one of the largest house insurers.
When it comes to their current properties, over half of those questioned believe they already have an 'eco-friendly' house. One in four has already made environmental improvements to their homes including: recycling, using energy-efficient light bulbs and renewable energy, putting in solar thermal hot water systems, and using natural materials in the building and decoration of their homes.Save On Water Heating Costs
Solar water heating systems can provide almost all of a property’s hot water during the summer and around 50% all the year around. They are a well tried and tested technology and suitable for new builds and retro-fit.
The choice of underfloor heating relies predominantly on radiant heat to warm objects and people in the space rather than warming the air. Available either as electric underfloor heating – the most suitable choice for retro-fits or as part of the hot water system for extensions and new builds. Used in conjunction with a heat pump, solar panels and perhaps a small wind turbine the integrated energy system can provide 60-70% savings on your energy costs.
Reducing your conventional energy dependence will give you real savings every day. An average home can expect to save a minimum of £300 off their energy bills - year after year. And with the way energy costs are increasing around the world, the savings could be even greater.
Savings and incentives will vary depending upon your location, type of system installed, orientation and inclination of the solar collectors, type of water heater being replaced, hot water consumption and fuel tariff. Maximum financial savings off your hot water bill are achievable when replacing an electric water heater on continuous tariff.
